Another season of strong profit - in review

Another season has drawn to a close and a 4 week hiatus for the thief is much needed after a long season of watching, studying and analysing. It's been a strange 23/24 season, which started when Rahm and then Hatton bunked off to LIV and continued with an underwhelming and increasingly diluted set of events, with B grade diluted fields and muddling schedules for players which made it harder to follow trends than previous years. The start of the season was off to a bang with Villegas following up a 2nd place with a 3 figure return in Bermuda a week later. What a blessing that was, as the next few months were an impossible task for me, as either complete unknowns Murray (RIP), Dunlap as an amateur, Endycott, Pavon, Knapp, Eckroat, or Scottie Scheffler kept winning. Wyndham won a washed out Pro Am at Pebble, Nick Taylor won in Phoenix when bang out of form (which was the first time I hadn't picked him in 3 years for that event), then Garnett, Jaeger and critically Malnati (beating Young with the aid of a drop from a sprinkler head from the gods - and Young's arse falling out) at the Valspar. As usual excuses, self confidence and huge self doubt started to creep in, but fortunately place money was rolling in and we were not bleeding out. Views on the blog dropped off, faith was not shown, and the darkness wasn't to lift, until the man of our year, Bob Mcintyre, gave us back to back wins in Canada at 75s and 90s in places. From then we got hot and place money rolled in along with the mercurial Davis Thompson winning at the John Deere to keep momentum. The intervention of a sprinkler ruling then went from villain to hero in a big way in Scotland, as Bob went in again with some great play at key times, and a huge slice of luck to give us 50s or better and even though a 4 win season didn't marry up to 2023, the place money and shrewd investment gave us some amazing returns again. Luckily for some of you, many read my summary of walking the course and napping Schauffelle for the Open, unfortunately his price meant it was him or 4 other players and I couldn't fit him into the Algorithm, but for once the bookies (sorry computer generated, spreadsheet odds compilers) got that right.
It is a tough ask to keep your head when all those around you can't keep theirs, but the lows this season have really paid off with some great days at the right time. Almost all 4 players placing at the Wyndham (in fact some SLYbet punters backed all 4 at 12 places getting that up) and all 3 placing at Harbour Town probably more satisfying than the wins.
I believe in the system and again it's played out, we have again, returned over 40% as an ROI which is something I couldn't have imagined back to back to back, in my wildest dreams. For a £1 level stake if you followed every week my picks, and only my picks, you would have returned £505.45 in the season......find me an ISA or another investment fund that would return that! (in fact find me another Golf betting blog that does!)
One final thing, and this is an appeal to followers for a bit of help. I invest masses of time in this and it is a labour of love. I want to continue this as a free to read non subscription based service and I intend to do so. I have set up a GoFundMe page to try and cover the costs of my website year on year. I pay £13.80 a month for the blog site and for my web address, and I'm trying to cover that as a cost, which I think is pretty reasonable. If followers can send a fiver, 2 quid, whatever they see fit or can afford it would be greatly appreciated. Ideally I'd like to raise upwards of £180 to get a Premium sub service on an Annual sub, which could get me a greater reach, but anything is welcome and I am nearing £100 from followers so far so a huge thank you to people who have contributed (see link below - copy and paste) just £65.60 to go!
