Oh Carolina

No review of last week needed, apart from the fact we the saved money I could have put up for Hojgaard and Noren as predictably Scheffler shot a 62 to win gold as Fleetwood blew yet another big chance. As the Play offs loom, the players head to Greensboro, North Carolina this week, with the usual stresses of this being their last chance saloon to qualify for the St Jude next week and the big money, big points scenario to the final!

Sedgefield Country club (7131yards Par 70) is a throwback to days of accuracy, and a classic Donald Ross design. In these days of braun over brain, the likes of Kuchar, Moore, Reavie will relish this test of accuracy, and tee to green prowess is the main ingredient to success.

This is borne out by looking at previous winners, Glover, Kim, Kisner, Herman, Poston. There are some young stars in this field, Clanton, Dunlap, Knapp, Thorjornsen who are all juicy prices, but this is a place for knowing and they won't be able to overpower this place. So these 4 players who will give themselves lots of looks and limited problems off the tee take us into this week.

First up, we have classic course, classic design and classic player. Tee to green guru and perennial underachiever KEITH MITCHELL, has had a bang average season whilst never really looking out of form. He is 6trh on tour Tee to Green, he drives the ball beautifully and his putting woes are all that have held him back. It's a classic track, and if Glover, Kim and Herman can win here then so can he, and he is our number one pick this week in the hope he gets hot (or at least not ice cold) on the greens. He, like all of our selections this week, is a massive price in a wide open field, and at 75/1 top 8 with Bet365 we can thieve a sizeable profit on one man, with 4pts e/w.

Next up the accuracy trend continues but with the caveat this guy has a hot putter and has power in the bank. DAVIS THOMPSON has given us one win already this season, but although he wasn't in my thinking initially, as soon as I saw he wasn't favourite, and then I saw he is in fact 33/1 8 places with Bet365 I had to pile in. His price is ludicrous, he's a star, apart from Sungjae (arguably) he is the best player in the field, and we go 6pts e/w scratching our heads as to why.

Next up it was heartening to see a revival from JJ SPAUN at the end of June (10th in the Rocket Mortgages) and even more so to see him 9th in the 3M. It's a similar quality field here, but this guy is a brilliant iron player, and the 33 year old can overcome a poor record here with renewed confidence. He sits a mile outside the play offs, so probably can't qualify unless he wins, but he is good enough, and after tipping him for big things at the start of last season, I'm doubling down on the lad who is a sleeper pick here. Bet365 are again best price and at 90/1 we invest 2.5pts e/w.

Last up we have rosy cheeks himself, the baby faced BEN GRIFFIN. This guy knocks on the door an awful lot and is a North Carolina boy. He has to win a B grade event in the next couple of years and maybe home comforts and the need not to squeeze distance from the big stick can help him. He is comfortably placed in 61st in the fed ex and with 3 top 10s this year (1 being on a classic Harry Colt track at the RBC in Canada where he came 2nd), he is overpriced this week for an event he came 4th in 2 years ago, all roads point to incredible value and we go 2.5pts e/w on him at 90/1 with Bet365 again.

Quite bullish this week, rather than full of doubt, so on we go let's bash those odds compilers we used to call bookies!
