Return of the Mac

Return of the Mac indeed as Bobby returned to the winners circle last week at a whopping 50/1, to top up the 90s he returned at the Canadian.

This week we have the pinnacle for so many, the Open Championship as 156 players, plus myself and 2 mates travel to Ayrshire and Royan Troon for a scintillating test, on a tight course that kept all players bar 2 , below double figures last time and let's hope the wind and gnarly rough and rescue test these guys to the limit.

So 6 out of the last 7 winners at Troon have been from across the pond, and only an inspired Stenson kept Mickelson at bay. This year looks to be no different as perfectly manicured fairways and greens that are very receptive take away the Links challenge to a degree and provide more home comforts from our pals from

across the Atlantic.

We go back to front this week and leave the best until last, and our 5 strong team starts with blog favourite TOM KIM. Trends are pointing to him, his putter is returning some hope for him to contend, and he has 2 Open starts behind him. A solid 47th in 2022 was followed up in foul conditions at Hoylake with a 2nd place. He is a strong fancy this week and a great price 40/1 10 places with Paddy Power, and we go 5pts ew.

Next up we have another tee to green specialist, trending player and blog regular in COREY CONNORS. The Canadian was solid again last week, he's been striking the ball well for a while and these flattish greens could suit him. He's picked again back to back and at 70s 8 places with Bet365 we use up 3pts ew.

Same rationale and blog regular the same applies for BYEONG HUN AN who is not only suited to a test like this, small fairways and greens he is jaw droppingly priced at 150s with Bet365 8 places again and we go in 2pts ew.

At this stage I will say I have done 3 rewrites of this as I am putting it together on my phone this week and it keeps removing changes, so I am losing patience with the time it is taking. Walking Troon today I wanted to make the choice between Morikawa and Schauffelle, I chose Xander but when I looked at his odds, at 12/1 I refuse to drop 3 players from the roster for 1. In my eyes he is fav here this week, but thievery does not come in the guise of backing a 12/1 shot in a field of 156 in a major.

2 to go and I hit on this guy not only because of his form, but because of his showing at Hoylake last year and his price. Form wise there are very few better players than AARON RAI in world golf at the minute. He seems to contend most weeks, he placed last year and he looked in fine form yesterday and very relaxed. He is 60/1 with Bet365 and again 8 places he gets 4pts ew.

Our 40pt investment for the last major of the year is completed by miserable arsehole PATRICK CANTLAY. He has found some form in the last month and he is slowly slipping down the rankings and his odds are as such that I can't ignore him. Of all the players I watched today, his tempo and his ball striking impressed me the most. He is World class, and again on these fast, flatter greens he will feel very at home. We use our last 6pts ew with Paddy Power 10 places at 40/1.

Apologies for the content as I have had to take stuff out and cut this short due to editing issues, it's hard work putting it together on a mobile phone. Here's to 4 great days, and please note this will be a case of shoot the lights out for 5 of the first 6 holes (the par 3 is a beast if the wind gets up), see what 7,8 and 9 brings and then hang on as the back 9 is horrid.

Enjoy
