The Zurich Pairs - an end to the slump

So the Zurich this week sees a pairs event with a simple and confusing format (that is a thing). Teams start with a fourball (best score to count) round 1 and 3 (so scores will be ridiculously low) and an alternate shot Foursome on rounds 2 and 4. The foursome will really dictate the overall score, so players who get on well and who's game sync will be to the fore this week. It's a low quality field outside of the top 6 pairs and this is shown in the Schauffelle/Cantlay pairing (and defending champions and event record score holders) being 3/1 favs this week.

After yet another poor week, Henley really disappointed at Harbour Town finishing two shots off a place, I really like him for a minimum place but this is now 4 weeks with no profit, a blog low, but we go again.

Two selections this week at strong odds and both men in one pick are Thief regulars.

TPC Louisiana in Avondale is a Par 72 measuring 7425 yards and scores are generally in the mid 20 under pars. Cantlay/Schauffelle won last year with a record score of 29 under, and strong iron play will set up lots of birdie opportunities.

The first selection this week is lower odds and more of a risky proposition than the second but I am plumping for Sahith Theegala/Justin Suh. Both men are imperious ball strikers and having fantastic seasons. Theegala just gets closer and closer each week to winning and Suh's ball striking stats are off the charts in 2023. I predict a lot of birdies for both, and if the foursome format doesn't show up some putting weaknesses I'm very keen on the odds on offer. at 20/1 top 8 (each way extra) bet365 at time of publishing I'm 6pts e/w.

Next up Taylor Moore/Matt NeSmith jumped out the page after their 4th place last season in their debut together. Moore is firmly fixed in the tracker as a huge hitter and brilliant putter and he won in March at Innisbrook in a strong field outstaying Burns and Speith for his maiden win. NeSmith isn't as much of a favourite of mine, but he plays well in the South at times and he did finish 59th last week at harbour Town, a place where you have to hit good iron shots and he has 3 top 10 finishes this season. They are 45/1 top 8 (each way extra) Bet365 and I'm 4pts e/w.

Be aware that other firms are offering similar odds but at 6 places, so if you can get on each way extra today with Bet365 (Wednesday 19th) get on.
